How to Dumbbell Step Up

Starting Position

1. Stand in front of a step or box with a dumbbell in each hand.

2. Place your feet hip-width apart and your toes pointing forward.

3. Make sure your shoulders are back and chest is up.

Proper Form

1. Step up onto the box with your right foot, keeping your weight in your heel.

2. Drive through your heel to lift your body up, bringing your left foot up behind your right foot.

3. Step back down with your left foot first, followed by the right foot.

4. Repeat the movement with the opposite leg.

Breathing Technique

1. Exhale as you drive through your heel to lift your body up.

2. Inhale as you step back down.

Precautions

1. Make sure to keep your back straight and chest up throughout the exercise.

2. Avoid pushing off with your toes to help lift your body up.

3. Keep the dumbbells close to your body and avoid swinging them.
