Why is there such a difference in difficulty between putting your hands behind your head and just crossing your arms???

The reason is that the center of gravity is moving away from the fixed point of the lever, and the force required to lift it is directly proportional to the distance from the lever.

When you place your hands behind your head, the weight of your arms is relatively distributed outward, making them feel heavier compared to when your arms are crossed. It's similar to how it's harder to lift objects that are farther away from your body.
