There is a bar in the gym that can be held with a shoulder-width grip (horizontal) and a vertical or narrow grip in an 11 shape. Does anyone know which muscle areas are targeted with each grip?

Narrowly, the latissimus dorsi; broadly, the upper back. This is almost how the back exercises are done.
