How to

Starting Position

1. Stand in front of the Smith Machine with your toes and the balls of your feet on a calf block or step. Your heels should be off the edge. 2. Adjust the bar on the Smith Machine to a height that is comfortable for you. 3. Place your hands on the bar and tighten your core.

Proper Form

1. Push through the balls of your feet to raise your body up onto your toes. 2. Pause for a second at the top of the motion then lower your heels back down to the starting position. 3. Repeat for the desired number of reps.

Breathing Technique

1. Inhale as you lower your heels back down. 2. Exhale as you push through your toes to raise your body up.

Precautions

1. Make sure your feet are placed securely on the calf block and that your heels are off the edge. 2. Do not let your knees bend when performing this exercise. 3. Do not lock your knees at the top of the movement.
