You need to maintain good intra-abdominal pressure. When standing, keep your waist in a neutral position, and while maintaining that intra-abdominal pressure, pull your hips back and then bring them forward again. Although deadlifts involve moving up and down, you should think of it as a front-to-back movement. If your back hurts, it means your posture is really off, so make sure to ask a trainer to check your form, even if just for a moment.
