I feel it in my forearms, not my shoulder or back. Am I doing something wrong?

relax your shoulders. Put them down. Mindfully keep your shoulders down; do a reverse shrug. No shrugging. Then your back will have to work it.

I feel that too sometimes, maybe try switching your grip?
