Is it better to have a higher number of repetitions for shoulder exercises? 12 repetitions seems a bit too much.

12 times isn't a lot! I can do 15 reps in 3 sets with proper form, and after that, I tend to increase the weight... It's right to increase it if you're in a hurry, but I think it's important to go slowly and last a long time if you want to exercise for a long time!
