I learned a similar tricep exercise from a senior in the military. Holding a dumbbell with one hand, I bring it behind my head and grip the dumbbell with my thumbs, index fingers, and middle fingers. Try it out; it really works the triceps!

It's sad that I can't do the exercise properly because I have a problem with my elbow. It hurts a lot and makes a cracking sound when I bend it, haha.
I originally understand that this exercise should gradually warm up the triceps near the elbow. If your elbow hurts from the beginning, lower the weight, and if your shoulder hurts, do more stretching.
Am I correct to start like this, sitting down, grabbing the grip behind me, and then just standing up?
