Is this exercise for broadening the shoulders? I'm asking because I don't want to get wider.

If you divide it into 21 parts, the stimulation is okay.

Why is only the shoulder area stimulated instead of the back?
For those who have back pain, try curling your back into a round shape as if your spine is touching the floor.

One advice:while performing this exercise ,do one side curl by slightly bending to that particular side and than to another
I have a plate loaded standing version in my home gym... I wish they made this machine years earlier lol. So much harder and better when you can't use body momentum like when using dumbbells

I do it every day, so what does the number matter?
The handle should be slightly below the collarbone, aiming for approximately the midpoint between the upper collarbone and the nipple. If it is lowered too much (near the nipple), the shoulder angle may be incorrect, increasing the risk of injury, and if it is positioned too high (just above the collarbone), it can easily put strain on the shoulder joint.
